Christian Service

Notre Dame Preparatory requires community service of all students as part of our commitment to their spiritual and social growth. Student must complete 125 hours of service before they graduate. All students are required to perform community service exclusively with non-profit organizations. At least 25 hours must be performed at the student’s own parish community.

All-Star Kids Tutoring Help at risk youth in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area to break the cycle of illiteracy so all children have an equal opportunity to succeed in education and in life.  All volunteers must submit an application, attend a training session, and volunteers 18 and older must undergo a background check. Arizona Magic of Music and Dance SUMMER ONLY AND MUST BE APPROVED BY SR. YOLANDA FOR SUMMER PARTICIPATION.  Provides unique, week-long camps that in just one week prepare Special Needs children and young adults to stage a wonderful theater production written and choreographed especially for them. Each of the Special Needs Actors is assigned a youth volunteer "Buddy" who spends the week with them to help them with fun, creative projects; helps them with their lines and costumes to prepare them for the production; and joins them on stage as their shadow if needed. Habitat for Humanity Valley of the Sun MUST BE AT LEAST 15 YEARS OLD AND WEARING TENNIS SHOES OR WORK BOOTS TO PARTICIPATE.  Habitat brings together individuals and groups from all parts of the community to ensure that Valley residents have a decent, affordable home. They provide a unique volunteer experience for people of all ages, races, religions and abilities. Horsense MUST MAKE A 5 WEEK COMMITMENT FOR 5 SATURDAYS FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 HOURS PER SATURDAY  Horsense is a dynamic equestrian youth riding camp designed for elementary school age children who otherwise would not have the opportunity to interact with horses. These children come from low-income families and are also taught drug prevention, desert survival and Arizona wildlife. Horses Help Utilizes specially trained horses, well-qualified instructors that are certified by North American Riding for the Handicapped Assn. (NARHA), physical and occupational therapists, and community volunteers to form exceptional teams to work with the special abilities population. Hospice Inspiris Extends emotional, physical and spiritual support to families who have loved ones cared for by Hospice.  Ongoing opportunities to visit hospice patients at a facility near your home at times that are convenient for you.  Training is required to participate. Full service hour credit will be given for the training program along with the hospice visiting hours. Phoenix Children’s Hospital MUST BE 16 YEARS OLD. Ongoing opportunities for hospital volunteers and individual events volunteer.  Process to become a hospital volunteer includes one-hour orientation, specialized training, health and background screening and a minimum commitment of 100 hours of service (about 3-4 hours per week.)  This process is very costly to the hospital, so please be realistic and honest when deciding to make this commitment.  There are individual events throughout the year that may be found on the website above that do not have the minimum hour requirements.  Full List of Events or check the scheduled events section on the NDP website for some of the coordinated events.

Project C.U.R.E Humanitarian relief organization identifying, soliciting, collecting, sorting and distributing medical supplies and services in over 120 countries worldwide.  Individual volunteers must attend a one hour new volunteer orientation which is held every other Monday evening from 6:00-7:00pm before volunteering.  Opportunities rinclude sorting, categorizing and boxing medical supplies.  Group volunteer sessions are scheduled Monday through Thursday 9am – 9pm, Friday 9am-4pm and Saturday 9am – 12pm in 2-3 hour increments. Teen Lifeline MUST BE 15 YEARS OLD Provide a safe, confidential and crucial crisis service where teens help teens make healthy decisions.  Rewarding peer to peer counseling program opportunities available following a five to six week training program consisting of two to four full days and five weekday evenings.  Full service hour credit will be given for the training program along with the peer counseling that follows. Tempe Senior Center (North) Provides home services to shut-ins including the elderly, sick and handicapped. United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Central Arizona works to advance the independence, productivity, and full citizenship of people with various disabilities. We’ve become a leader in providing therapies, inclusive and integrated educational based programs and innovative social opportunities to children and adults with various disabilities. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work as a Peer Mentor in our afterschool program (age 16 and up preferred) or as a Teachers Aide in our Early Learning Center (documentation of negative TB test within previous 6 months required prior to working in the learning center). Welcome to America Project Reaches out to refugees right here in Phoenix with a warm welcome and some much-needed furniture and home essentials.  The mission is to build bridges of neighborly understanding between the local community and refugees recently arrived from countries ravaged by war, genocide, and hate. To fulfill this mission, WTAP volunteers and staff gather high quality furniture donations as well as household items from the local community, sort, store and then deliver them every Saturday throughout the year to newly arrived refugee families. Teams of volunteers and staff members transform almost empty apartments into warm, comfortable homes. WHEAT (World Hunger Education, Advocacy & Training) Educates, advocates, motivates and empowers individuals to action in the fight against local and global hunger.
