Online Education

Online Education

Notre Dame Preparatory utilizes The Jesuit Virtual Learning Academy (JVLA) to provide additional curricular opportunities to its students. JVLA is a non-profit organization supported by the Jesuit Conference whose purpose is to use the interactive power of the internet to harness the collaborative capacity of Catholic schools across the country.

The Jesuit Virtual Learning Academy was founded in 2007 to provide Catholic secondary schools online and blended opportunities relating to student coursework and teacher professional development.

This school year the JVLA will be working with 44 partner Catholic schools. They anticipate serving approximately 2,000 students in their teacher-led and self-paced programs.

JVLA teachers are seasoned Catholic educators from Jesuit schools throughout the United States. They are certified in the subject area in which they are teaching and have gone through extensive training in the development and delivery of online courses.

Courses are designed around a series of learning modules that students complete together. Though the delivery will be different, just like the traditional classroom, there will be lectures, discussions, projects, reading assignments and more. Much of the work is done independently on students' own time utilizing learning tools—such as discussion boards, blogs, wikis and group projects that are participative in nature. There will also be occasions when students gather online at the same time for live discussions, teacher instruction and guest lectures.

Classes consist of young men and women from Catholic secondary schools around the country. The courses are meant to be interactive experiences. As such it is the shared responsibility of all of a class's participants, both students and teacher, to build a rich learning community.
