FIRST FLINN SCHOLAR FOR NOTRE DAME PREP |

Nirali Patel is Notre Dame Preparatory's first recipient of a scholarship from the Flinn Foundation. The scholarship, awarded annually to 20 Arizona high-school seniors, is one of the most prestigious merit-based scholarships in the United States. Flinn Scholars receive four years of study, room, board, and related expenses at an Arizona public university, academic-focused travel abroad, and personal mentorship by faculty and alumni Scholars. |
Nirali in enrolled in NDP's Summa Cum Laude accelerated program of study and has achieved a GPA of 4.0 or higher for all four years of high school. She is an executive board member of of the school's National Honors Society and a finalist for a National Merit Scholarship. Nirali has represented NDP for four years at the Arizona Math Competition and was awarded state recognition as a sophomore for being in the top 10% of math students in Arizona. Trained in Indian classical dance since the age of five, Nirali has also studied Suzuki piano for 12 years and worked last summer at a hospital in Malawi, Africa with children needing physical therapy. Her activities at Notre Dame include the Debate Club, Sister Cities International, Diversity Club and Ambassador's Club. She plans to pursue a career in the field of global healthcare. |
Cipriano Haro Scholarship
John and Lauren Haro gave Notre Dame’s very first scholarship in honor of John’s father, Cipriano. Cipriano was a miner who raised a large family. He greatly valued education and made sure that each of his children attended college. This year’s recipient, Jeff Balser, is a graduate of Pope John Paul, XXIII.

The Wallace Beene Scholarship
John and Lauren Haro also provided the Wallace Beene Scholarship in honor of Lauren’s father. Mr. Beene was a renowned international journalist who was a World War II Veteran, worked in the film industry and was a professor of Journalism at the University of Arizona.Scooter Bankofier is this year's recipient of the Wallace Beene Scholarship.

The Catherine Harvey Scholarship is given by Liz and Mike Harvey whose mother was Catherine. Catherine was a nurse that believed deeply in Catholic Education. Mike and Liz give this scholarship in recognition of her. The Harveys represent the true essence of stewardship, giving of their time, talent and treasure to Notre Dame Preparatory. This year’s recipient is Isabella Perrino.

The Mothers’ Guild Award is given to an 8th grade girl who is outstanding in the areas of academics, character and leadership by the Mothers’ Guild. This year’s recipient is Emily Phillips.

The John E. McMahon Award is given to and 8th grade boy who is outstanding in the areas of academics, character and leadership. John was one of the founding board members of Notre Dame Preparatory and he originated the idea of this merit based scholarship with our first incoming 8th grade class. The recipient this year is Edmund Wong.

The Alumni Association Scholarship is given to a student of outstanding character, leadership and academic achievement. This is given through the Alumni Organization. This year’s recipient is Brenden Smith.

The Caitlyn Janssen Scholarship is a memorial scholarship was created by the Knights of Columbus of Our Lady of Joy in honor of Caitlyn Jansen, a student whose life ended tragically in a car accident in June of 2007. The recipient who was selected J’Seaun Pierre But’ierries.

The Jim Rantanen Scholarship was established in memory of one of Notre Dame’s most beloved staff members. Jim Rantanen was an integral part of the athletic program at Notre Dame and was one of NDP’s greatest fans. His scholarship goes to a freshman student who has demonstrated good sportsmanship, enthusiasm, reverence, respect and responsibility. The student is selected by freshmen teachers.
